On 2nd October 2022 Alan Oakley took on one of the most demanding but equally exhilarating endurance challenges you can face. Joining over 42,000 other runners he ran the 42nd London Marathon, no mean feat running 26.2 miles around the Nation’s Capital. Supported by family, friends and the mass number of supporters, he completed the challenge in 5 hours and 7 minutes, finishing in a position of 18,867. Alan chose to run as a way to generate money for the Children’s Hospice South West Charity which Grosvenor have supported for the last 3 years and we are delighted to announce that he has raised an impressive £2,183 for the Charity.
Although the key focus is rightly on the day of the Marathon, what many people fail to recognise is the months of training and preparation needed in order to complete the challenge. You cannot just turn up on the day and expect to easily but most importantly safely, complete the run. You have to physically and mentally prepare yourself and your body well in advance of the challenge. Training runs, conditioning, diet and equipment all need to be carefully considered and planned. The day of the Marathon is the last step in the process, the commitment and dedication to complete all the training is something that should never be overlooked and we would like to congratulate Alan on his entire marathon journey.
Alan comments, “It was a fantastic experience to compete in this years London Marathon. The atmosphere for the whole run was simply incredible and I couldn’t have been prouder when I crossed the finish line. It is not until you have the time to reflect on the entire event that you can fully appreciate what you have achieved. The 2nd October 2022 will always be special to me, knowing I have completed one of life’s great experiences. On top of that is the gratitude I have for everybody that has offered me support throughout this journey along with the satisfaction of being able to raise some much needed funding for a fantastic charity”.
